We invite you to the exhibition of works by students of the Glass, Ceramics, Leather, Textile Arts study program of the KUAS Faculty of Arts and Education “From Line to Color”, which is exhibited on the 1st floor of the Study Center and in the Library spaces.
The exhibition presents the works of students from the educational methodological collection created for the tasks of the Glass, Ceramics, Leather, Textile Art study program subject “Fundamentals of Composition and Design” (lector Sigita Grabliauskaitė). While studying this subject, students become familiar with the basic concepts of composition and color, as well as ways and means of harmonizing the composition.
Compositions created by young artists are exhibited in the exhibition, the main element of which is a recognizable object chosen by them. The purpose of the compositions was to reveal the selected object using the principles of creating squares and rosettes. We also wanted to find harmonious color and tonal solutions that best suit the selected object, or on the contrary, solutions that break up the object and help create a completely new and unexpected composition.
When creating compositions, the students drew inspiration from the works of artists Maurits Cornelis Escher, Hunter Wasser, Victor Vasarely, Kazios Varnelis and Stasios Krasauskas. For example, the work of Monika Imbrasaitė, who is currently studying in her second year, was inspired by M. C. Escher’s graphic work “Eye”, which depicts the artist’s eye, which encouraged the young creator to search for and reveal the connection between the artist and the viewer in her works. Examining V. Vasarely’s work, the student combined distinctive and unique creative interpretations with fragments of the artist’s compositions and created three-dimensional cubes and rosettes exhibited in the exhibition. Meanwhile, the work of student Gabija Mikalopaitė, who is currently in her third year, is enriched by the miniature graphic explorations of the colorful painterly strokes of the artist Vincent van Gogh. Visitors to the exhibition, who want to understand the student’s choice, are recommended to watch the first animated film based on painting in history about the work and life of Vincent van Gogh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy0RVDM1sNA and https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=9gJeMG1p5aQ
Taking into account the fact that during studies, students are encouraged to combine special subjects – glass, ceramics, leather, textiles with each other, or integrate them into other branches of visual art, the students used the created compositions for the creation of design objects. Program coordinator Sigita Grabliauskaitė says that observing the surrounding environment, being interested in the works of other creators and analyzing them inspires students to experiment, searching for and, of course, discovering their own creative style.
