The head of the Library and Information Resources Center, dr. Lina Šarlauskienė, has been elected as the chairperson of the Lithuanian Library Council. The Lithuanian Library Council is an institution that serves as an expert and advisory body in shaping and implementing the country’s library policies. The composition and regulations of the Lithuanian Library Council are approved by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. By the order of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the composition of the Lithuanian Library Council is confirmed for a three-year term.
Lithuania has 2,152 libraries of various types, including national, audiovisual, county public, municipal public, academic, school, museum, special, and others. The libraries serve approximately 1 million users, receive around 18 million visitors annually, and provide a wide range of services. Dr. Lina Šarlauskienė expresses her gratitude to her colleagues for their trust and is delighted to contribute to the vision that all libraries can collectively strive to be modern and more appealing to their users.
