Exhibition of maps from the personal archive of Ilona and Valdas Urbanavičius:“History Recorded in Maps: The Dioceses of Lithuania”

We invite you to visit the map exhibition “History Recorded in Maps: The Dioceses of Lithuania”, displayed on the second floor of the library and dedicated to the centenary of the Lithuanian Ecclesiastical Province. The exhibition features original maps from the personal archive of lecturers Ilona and Valdas Urbanavičius.

A hundred years ago, a pivotal turning point took place in Lithuania, transforming both Church and state life. On April 4, 1926, following the promulgation of Pope Pius XI’s bull “Lituanorum gente”, the Lithuanian Ecclesiastical Province was established, with its metropolitan archdiocese founded in Kaunas. This event marks the centenary of the Archdiocese of Kaunas and the dioceses of Telšiai, Panevėžys, Kaišiadorys, and Vilkaviškis.
