We invite you to visit the exhibition of works by students of the Object Art study program at the Academy of Arts, Faculty of Arts and Education, Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution, displayed on the second floor of the library: “The Book as an Art Object.”
Annotation
The book, as a form of storing and preserving information, has undergone a long process of transformation and development. Today, it is more convenient to store and manage information in digital formats; however, the book in its original form has remained and continues to exist, acquiring a different cultural and symbolic meaning. Through learning bookbinding technologies, students approach the book as an object of artistic creation and a source of inspiration. In their creative work, the book can take on unexpected forms and even transform into sculptural objects. Often, this represents an attempt to transfer the idea and content of the book into a creative space, presenting an individual perspective and unconventional solutions. For them, the book is important as a symbol and a source of creative inspiration.
At the Academy of Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Education at Kaunas University of Applied Sciences, traditions of leather art have long been continued and newly developed, spanning from the pre-war period to contemporary trends in book art. The exhibition presents historical and experimental bindings as well as creative interpretations by students of the Object Art program. The aim of the exhibition is to broaden the traditional perception of the book by presenting it not only as a medium for storing information, but also as a cultural symbol and an object of creativity and self-expression.
