We invite you to visit the book exhibition “Open, Changing, Interesting …” displayed on the third floor of the library and dedicated to International Museum Day and Museum Night. International Museum Day is celebrated worldwide on May 18 in order to highlight the importance of museums for culture, the preservation of history, and public education. This day reminds us that museums are places where the memory of humanity and cultural heritage are preserved. In 2026, International Museum Night in Lithuania will take place on Saturday, May 23. During this event, museums invite visitors to explore them at an unusual time — in the evening and at night. Museum Night features various exhibitions, guided tours, educational activities, concerts, creative workshops, and other cultural events.
The theme of the exhibition, “Open, Changing, Interesting…”, reflects the idea of the modern museum. Today, museums are not only places for preserving exhibits, but also lively and constantly evolving spaces where visitors can discover history, art, and culture in different ways. Museums help us better understand the past, comprehend the present, and preserve the most important cultural values for future generations. They encourage curiosity, inspire interest in history, art, and traditions, and provide opportunities to learn and discover new ideas. International Museum Day and Museum Night bring people together for shared cultural experiences and remind us that museums are an important part of public life. It is a great opportunity to visit museums, participate in events, and once again discover that the world of museums is open, changing, and interesting.
