Opening of the paper-cutting exhibition “White Patterns” by KK student and folk artist Nojus Žusinas

We kindly invite you to the opening of the paper-cutting exhibition “White Patterns” by Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution student and folk artist Nojus Žusinas. The event will take place on September 8 (Monday) at 1 p.m. on the second floor of Kaunas Library.

Annotation

_________The exhibition “White Patterns” is the second solo exhibition of the nineteen-year-old folk artist, which will travel through various Lithuanian cities until August 2026. The exhibition consists of two parts: the first features thirty paper-cut distaffs, while the second presents a spatial installation of cut-out ribbons. A young-generation art developer says that from the very first steps of his creative path, it has been important for him to share the message with his peers that preserving and continuing ethnic traditions is an essential part of our identity.
_________In preparing this exhibition, the author seeks to highlight an area of applied decorative art that is important to him – traditional and visual art paper-cutting – while raising significant questions: What kind of deviation from tradition is possible? In which direction should applied art move as it approaches modernity? The author aims to intrigue the visitor, inviting them to be both an observer and a thinker.
_________The folk artist reflects: when should we draw the line between folk art and modern forms? Or perhaps no such line needs to be drawn at all, since change takes place everywhere and at all times. He invites us to take part in this change.
