Exhibition of Publications Dedicated to the Struve Geodetic Arc – Marking the 20th Anniversary of Its Inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List “In the Footsteps of the Struve Geodetic Arc”

We invite you to visit the exhibition of publications “In the Footsteps of the Struve Geodetic Arc”, displayed on the third floor of the Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution Library and Scientific Communication Centre. The exhibition is dedicated to commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Struve Geodetic Arc being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The exhibition presents publications about one of the most significant objects in the history of geodesy — the Struve Geodetic Arc, a triangulation network stretching more than 2,800 kilometres and constructed in the 19th century, which became a fundamental basis for determining the shape and size of the Earth. The displayed materials highlight the importance of geodetic measurements and their traces in Lithuania and around the world. The exhibition consists of publications from the College Library collection and the private archive of lecturers Ilona and Valdas Urbanavičius.

Exhibition dates: 17–28 November 2025
Exhibition venue: The Library and Centre of Scientific Communication, Pramonės Ave. 22A, Kaunas

You are also invited to the event “Measuring the Earth Yesterday – Shaping the World Today: Geodesy and GIS”, which will take place on 19 November 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (Pramonės Ave. 22, Auditorium 1–57).
