EXHIBITION ANNOTATION
The need to store and protect small items has influenced the emergence of boxes as distinct creative objects. To this day, the form, style, and materials used in making boxes have undergone a long process of transformation. Over several centuries, the evolution of this object can be traced—from simple wooden boxes to luxurious, highly ornate ones made from precious materials and intricately decorated. The exhibition features works created in 2024 by students of the Object Art Program, specializing in Leather Art, during Decorative Plastics classes.
Leather is among the oldest materials used by humans since ancient times. It is a durable, flexible material that responds well to processing and possesses many unique qualities. It can be dyed, burned, shaped, textured, and embossed with various markings. With the application of new technologies, the possibilities for leather processing and decoration have expanded even further. Although many substitutes are now produced industrially, none have yet matched the capabilities of natural leather.
The decorative objects presented in the exhibition serve the function of boxes. However, these are not just traditional items as commonly seen. Each box, crafted by a different author, is a unique creative object inspired by interpretations of natural forms, historical epoch trends, and artistic styles. Every piece is individual and original, sparking the imagination and holding a secret within. If any exhibit captures your interest, provokes thought, or ignites your imagination—if you find yourself wondering how it was made, what might be inside, or feel the urge to touch or open it—then the creative goal has been achieved.
