Therefore, giving proper credit to the original source or creator is vital in academic publishing. When this principle is violated, plagiarism occurs, which may have serious consequences. Plagiarism is one of the most common forms of research misconduct and can take many different shapes. Yet, there is no single global definition of plagiarism, leaving researchers and authors uncertain about what counts as plagiarism versus what is acceptable similarity under publishing ethics standards.
