The Library is rich in various types of information resources. Its funds stockpile about 96,000 copies of relevant print documents of about 27,000 titles for the readers to use. The Library funds are constantly updated and annually supplemented with new publications. New books of about 600 titles are purchased every year, and about 31 printed professional periodicals are subscribed. The vast majority of Library books are in the open funds, which store books according to the UDC classification.

Acquisition of the Library resources<\/h4>
\n

While acquiring books or subscribing to databases, the study programmes and the needs of the Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution community are taken into account. Lecturers, responsible staff, and the Library cooperate to prepare an order. Relevant publications are selected by thematic librarians, who are responsible for certain areas of studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the study process requires a book that the library does not have in printed or electronic form, please write by mail (biblioteka@go.kauko.lt) or fill the book order form.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

New books<\/h4>
\n

Newly received publications can be found in new book exhibitions organized periodically in the library. Lists of new books are sent to the college community by e-mail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Library programs and equipment<\/h4>
\n

The library uses modern international library programs Alma<\/strong> and Primo VE <\/strong>to register publications, perform searches, perform accounting and lend books to users. The book lending period depends on the status of the book, its demand and the number of copies. Readers can learn the time of the book return in their account by logging in to the Library Virtual Library. The Library also e-mails readers reminders to their institutional accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Library has the RFID<\/strong> equipment installed for the use and protection of the funds. The readers can use self-service book issue and return machines.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Universal Decimal Classification<\/strong> (UDC<\/strong>)<\/h4>
\n

The library bookshelves have the signs with the UDC numbers and topics specifying the books stored on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UDC<\/a> is a universal decimal classification, according to which library books are grouped depending on the topic. UDC\u2019s most innovative and influential feature is its ability to express not just simple subjects but relations between subjects. This facility is added to a hierarchic structure, in which knowledge is divided into ten classes<\/a>, then each class is subdivided into its logical parts, each subdivision is further subdivided, and so on. The more detailed the subdivision, the longer the number that represents it. The first number of UDC indicates the main section (e.g. 3 \u2013 Social sciences, 33 \u2013 Economics).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
